When you deal with Greaves, you deal with a team committed to more than just effective mixing. We have experience across a wide range of sectors including Food, Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics, Chemicals and Water Treatment, amongst others. This expertise allows us to recognise that specific requirements can differ across different sectors. Here we introduce key members of the Greaves’ team, talking about their experience in the Food & Beverage sector….

Tim Neville – Technical Sales Manager IMAGE

“When I first meet every customer my priority is to understand their objectives and the challenges they face. In the food sector, this means learning more about:”

  • Previous processing experiences
  • Specific issues and mixing problems
  • End-to-end production process
  • Batch sizes and daily volumes
  • Environmental constraints
  • Other considerations: hygiene, safety, cleaning etc.
  • New product innovations

With 30 years of industrial process experience, customers look to me to offer solutions that meet their requirements. From a personal viewpoint, I get great satisfaction from identifying additional opportunities to go beyond the customer objectives.

By selecting the right system, it is often possible to achieve productivity improvements that exceed customers expectations”

Phill Lord – Design Engineer IMAGE

“As a Design Engineer with 14 years experience in Food Processing Systems, my primary focus is hygiene. This involves selection of the correct materials and using the appropriate welds with a clean final finish.

The ideal design must be bolt-free and have “no hang-ups” to ensure finished products are removed rapidly and that the vessel can be easily cleaned. Many food mixers require steam heating jackets. For hygiene, operator safety and thermal efficiency the insulation is usually solid clad and polished smooth.

Mixer shaft seals must use FDA approved material and we also install inverted cup seals to prevent ingress of oil from transmission systems. Where rapid heating and cooling cycles are required, fatigue calculations are performed to support certification.

We work closely with Notified Bodies to achieve CE certification and help customers with IQ / OQ / PQ documentation.

Our 3D designs are capable of FEA analysis and testing. We can provide customers with STEP files to assist with full plant layouts”

Stephen Beckett – Vessel Production Leader IMAGE

““We have a great team at Greaves Vessels with breadth and depth of experience in all aspects of vessel engineering. We work closely with sales and design right from the first stage of a new project, thinking about:”

  • Quality and Durability
  • Material type and form
  • Alignment and tolerances
  • Weld procedures and codes
  • Inspection stages
  • Finishing i.e. polishing, acid cleaning
  • Ease of use
  • Efficient use of materials
  • Efficient manufacture
  • NDT ie dye-penetration, MPI, radiography, hydraulic testing
  • Certification

It’s really pleasing to the see consistent increases in vessel orders and the responses for customers about the quality of the finished products.

We all get great satisfaction from seeing the completed machines leaving the factory and satisfied customers re-ordering.”
